As we speak President Bush is planning to attend a private fundraiser for Rep. Shelley Moore Capito tomorrow night in Charleston.
The fundraiser is costing $4200 a couple. Lets help Mike Callaghan counter this fundraiser through grass roots efforts to make a statement that the Bush administration with supporters like Shelley Moore Capito have a failed agenda that will not work for the American people.
For six years, the Bush/Capito agenda has continually hurt the people of West Virginia. Capito has voted to cut rural healthcare monies, has not taken a stand on raising the minimum wage, and refuses to take a stand on the privitization of social security.
Mike Callaghan, a former federal prosecutor and the former secretery of the Department of Environmental Protection for the state of West Virginia, is an advocate of raising the minimum wage, has already pledged not to privitize social security, and has called the Bush/Capito Medicare Part D prescription drug plan a complete failure.
Shelley Moore Capito can be beat. Her voting record speaks for itself. In a recent ranking by a politcal think tank, Shelley Capito was ranked 228 out of 232 Republicans in the House in terms of her effectiveness for her district.
In a district that is registered 2 to 1 Democratic, and with the feeling of change that is needed in this District, Capito can be beat. She is vulnerable and is now showing that she is completely out of touch with her constituents by hosting a private function for the President of the United States.
It is our job to counter this event by helping Callaghan raise money on a person to person level. If anyone can support him, it will help give him the edge that he needs to beat his oppponent. He has an act blue account and you can donate on his website at www.mikewv.com.
There is also a house party forming in support of Callaghan in Charleston. "The People's Party" put on by Callaghan's staff is asking for $21 a person and $42 a couple to help counter this event. This event was even reported on in the Charleston Daily Mail and a Charleston TV Station today and should have a great turnout.
Let's support Mike Callaghan and help him get elected to Congress. Its time to get people that are lock-step with President Bush, like Rep. Shelley Moore Capito, out of office and get people, like Mike Callaghan, that care about people and not big oil into office.
